Citrus
2 bedroom - 2 bath - 1 parking spot
1326 N Citrus ave, Hollywood, Ca 90028
The place was really big for a 2 bedroom and the layout was great. We were on the 2nd floor, the balcony faced some trees.  Laundry was okay, kind of in a dirty building at end of the place.  The parking was pretty bad, very tight and bums always hung out around it.  The area is somewhat safe, but not perfect.  It is close to ralphs and the hollywood/sunset strip.

This was my first apartment in LA. There was parking but it was expensive $100 per month. Also not included were any plumbing needs which can get expensive if water is not draining in your apartment. The property owner is very very cheap. The landlord that used to be there was very nice, but she left in last year (2010).

First the apt I ended up with was in no way a match with the one I saw in the ad I responded to, on my move in day it was only a couple hours later that I discovered an infestation of roaches in EVERY ROOM and when I alerted the mgr about it, it seemed absurd to her like it was a bother to remedy the issue. The place had enough nice folk, but someone forgot to mention the resident drug pusher with "clientele" freely entering and exiting the supposed "gated and secured" property throughout the day including several really creepy homeless crackheads and the like. When it was cold, there was NO heat, there was NO dishwasher as stated in the ad for the joint, I was put on a waiting list for parking which was also stated as being included and had to wait nearly to the end of my lease to get a space and THEN had to pay an extra 50/month to get it! If you need a quiet safe place to reside forget about this one, the noise in the courtyard area from fellow residents went until the wee hours and the surrounding area was Hollywood at it's worst.....bums, drug dealers, cops constantly arresting people, noisy LAPD choppers flying overhead in the wee hours and street parking for guests was non existent. The plumbing was pretty bad as well, very VERY low water pressure and the parking lot was not secure. Someone once set the trash dumpster and both recycling bins on fire. Burned to the ground the next day...right where everyone parks. Don't be suckered in by whatever ad they place, this place was the farthest thing from a place to call home, the mgr is only in it for the free rent she gets even though she plays nice when she's trying to rent to you, the owner AND mgr are clearly in the back pocket of this drug dealer that lived there because no one ever said anything about the strange characters that always seemed to be visiting HIM. Heed my words. STEER CLEAR!

Thank goodness for hardwood floors and space, otherwise I think I would have jumped out of my balcony. I guess you could say I am use to a type of setting and that is why I pay what I pay. I just wish they would clean the hallway carpets more then once a year. Its not like we live in the most cleanliness of areas. With smog in our hazy skys, you would think that a community would rent a vacuum cleaner every once in awhile. I once gathered enough dust from a corner in that hallway to make a nest for a primative bird, cousin to the vulture but obviously large in size..

Alexa Artiste on Cherokee

1746 N. Cherokee Ave., Hollywood, Ca 90028
The Alexa is pretty hip and cool filled with young creatives with a rock and roll vibe. The neighborhood is buzzing with people and energy. The building is maintained as best as it can be for such and old building. I lived on the top floor so noise was minimal. It had hardwood floors and everything worked properly. I also had exposed brick walls. if you like being around young hip people in a very bustling neighborhood this is great. Overall a fun and interesting building with a rich history. If you want quiet and a child friendly environment look elsewhere.

Recently renovated and converted to studio apartments, the move in rate is under $1,000. Many neighbors freelance in the industry and like the proximity to the many studio lots. May not need to sign a lease, so a good interim while still looking location in the heart of Hollywood - if you need to be.

Great except for the roaches
Small snug apartment. No fridge or stove, have something small to cook and store food! Building had bugs in the washroom near a pipe. Otherwise no problems. I've been told the problem has been fixed, and it seems to be more of an issue with the ground than the place. Pretty safe to walk around even late. Highland does look a little unsettling at night. Very close to a Target and Best Buy. One block from a grocery store. Unable to put a A/C in the window however.

Chateau Alto Nido is OK
It was basically good. The neighbors were a little wild and the turnover from out-of-towners was high. My apartment itself was beautiful. I think the final year I lived there a ghost was in the apartment just above; albeit, this is a regular occurrence in historical hollywood buildings. This building does have a lot of history.

I will miss the Villa Elaine
The building is right on Vine street, but once you enter the grounds you are definitely brought to another time and space. I appreciated the friendly community surrounding the Villa Elaine and after living elsewhere I have come to really miss that sort of neighborly acumen.

Sycamore Towers
This place is horrendous. Underwent a managment change a few months ago, and it went from livable, to down right horrible. The new managers are gay, and evidently the prison sex type of gay because thats how they run the building. They spend most of their time harrassing, and threatning the tenants. Created some interesting parking rules where if you dont register your car with them they will two your car. I had an accident and came home with a rental. Changed cloths, and was heading back to work and they had already had my rental towed. 20 units vacated within the space of two months. New people coming in who signed a year lease, their torment began on their moving day. Those moving out, tormented on their way out. Beyond that, since their occupation appears to be to terroize and snoop on residents, they don't clean anything but the elevator which smells of toxic cleaning supplies, and they haven't vacuumed in months. The pool area has become a dumping ground for their personal trash, and they put locks and chains all over the place. It's just disgusting. They also have STOLEN everyone's deposits. I lived here 12 years, and they took all of my deposit for paining and the like. It's fraud, we know it, will be suing for our deposit return. Don't move here. You've been warned.

Havenhurst Apartments
I honestly really enjoyed this apartment, it was a large older, yet remodeled building called the Havenhurst. For the size of the building and the large amount of tenants it was actually incredibly quiet inside, though during the weekends it could be get a little noise at night due the fact it was a corner apartment and right around the corner from Hollywood blvd. I actually enjoyed the neighborhood, there was always something interesting to see when staring out the window or off of the shared balcony. Every tenant that I met in the building was extremely friendly but kept to themselves for the most part. My favorite part of living in this building was the enormous, beautiful courtyard hidden in the center of the building. A beautiful fountain and tables were in the center, which was perfect if you wanted to just go outside and relax, the best part was it was hardly used so it was a nice place to go for fresh air and some peace and quiet. The size was also a very big plus, the living area and both bedrooms were very spacious though the kitchen and bathroom left a bit to be desired. Overall one of my favorite buildings I have lived in.

N Orange Apartment
For a studio apartment this place was actually fairly large. Living room was a decent size, kitchen was very large, bathroom was large and there was a small room off of the living room that was large enough to fit a queen sized bed, almost making it a one bedroom apartment. The inside was pretty nice, clean hardwood floors in the living area and vinyl in the kitchen and bathroom. 4 large windows, good paint job, and some water damage in the corner of the living room ceiling but nothing too out of hand. The only amenities were the on site washer and dryer, but for it being a large apartment complex there was only one dryer and one washer on site and each cost 2.00 per load, which seemed way too high. The major downside of the apartment was the noise level, the walls seemed almost paper thin, you could hear every tiny little noise in the hallway or surrounding apartments. Over all I enjoyed the look and feel of the apartment, but the noise was what really killed this one for me, unless you sleep like a rock I wouldn't recommend this place.
