The Valley
Quaint Complex
I live on the 2nd floor (of 3 floors) of the complex.  The location is great.  We are less than a mile from ralphs, and close to bars.  The actual apartment can be a bit noisy since we have someone above but nothing out of the ordinary.  The AC is great, and overall the property is very clean. Great balcony and fireplace.

I lived here for a few years. The apartment was huge and nice. All the units had a washer/dryer stack in closet which was a killer thing to have. The apartment had central heating and AC, and we only paid for electricity. The area is as beautiful. The neighborhood was clean and safe and very upscale. The Arclight movie theater is within walking distance and you have easy access to both the 405 and 101. We once had a noise complaint called in on us for playing Guitar Hero too loud at like midnight with the balcony doors open once, but other than that there was never noise issues. The land lords are a husband and wife with 2 kids, they are both super nice and easy to talk to and always we available and on top of anything that needed to be handled. Though street parking for guests could some times be hard you knew their car was safe. I couldn't recommend a better place to live.

Clean. Quiet. And best of all right across the street from a 24 hour IHOP. Pancakes, anytime. The complex had a nice feel and was maintained well. The landlord lives next door in a house and was very friendly. On site laundry was close to the entrance which is better than having to go to a laundry mat. The unit had a large living room and bed room with a decent sized kitchen and dinning area. The only downs sides were the slat style windows which weren't air tight and the lack of central AC. Ceiling fan in the bed room was super helpful though. Nice place to live and close to Sherman Oaks. Street parking was a few blocks away for guests.

I have lived in the Chase Knolls Community for 3 years now and it is wonderful! Fast with any problems and the management is really flexible with you. ALWAYS street parking and there are no permits required. Gated entry and a clean community. A lot of cool bars and restaurants in the area. I definitely recommend Chase Knolls to anyone looking in the Sherman Oaks area. Laundry rooms are always free and clean as well. Water, sewer and trash is given to you at the end of the month and you turn it in with your rent. Usually runs about $50 a month total..

Lived here for 2 years by myself. It was awesome enough. All the parking was covered and there was like 24/7 security roaming the complex. The apartment was actually a condo owned by this old dude that lived out in the country. Few people in the complex were renters, most were owners. The apartment itself was large and carpeted and had an awesome balcony.

We just moved in here a few months ago. The people are really nice and the whole place is really clean. The apartment is beautiful. Brand new tile floors and kitchen and bathroom counters. Big windows in both the bed rooms and a sliding door onto the patio off the living room. We also have a really clean pool and a lot of nice trees.

I searched almost a dozen apartment before I moved to The Ridge View apartment. I'm very lucky to lived in this apartment, it is just a great for three reasons. First the location, located in Nordhoff Street, it is close to Northridge Mall, CSUN, Bestbuy, Target, Wallmart, Korean market galeria at Reseda, In & Out, California Chicken Cafe, Chipotle, multiple Korean and Japanese restaurant. Second, the area is very green and clean (lot's of plant around the apartment), the manager make sure everything stay clean and safe for the tenants. Third, Majority of the tenants are friendly and civilized, I seldom heard people screaming or children playing around the court yard. Simply the best affordable apartment for CSUN student.

this was a great experience. Although the building was older;I think it was built in the 1960's, it was well maintained. The neighbors were nice and friendly, the neighborhood was quiet, the amenities were good , but best of all the unit was HUGE. The closet space was GIGANTIC.

Convenient complex for showbiz
types/Archstone
The Archstone chain offers a comfortable and convenient living situation. This studio City complex is a short walk -- yes, walk (!) from Universal Studios and offers leases from 2 months up. Many actors and television/film people from out of town stay here while filming. It's a large complex with two pools -- one of them enormous -- two 24-hour gyms, BBQ areas, two game rooms and business centers. Small pets under 25 lbs are allowed in at least one building, and parking is not too bad on the street for visitors. The maintenance is fairly good here, but a couple of the maintenance guys gave me the creeps. They do respond immediately to work orders and fix things very well. The apartments are outfitted very nicely; mine had black granite counters, a bathroom with a giant oval soaking tub, hardwood floors in the bath, blue glass light fixtures over the breakfast bar, new carpet, a little balcony with an outdoor closet to stash more stuff. However... To read more...

Industry gem in Toluca/Oakwood Toluca Hills
Oakwood Toluca Hills was the first place I lived in LA. It's well known as a corporate housing complex filled with stage parents who bring their kids for auditions, staying for a few months. But about half the residents are permanent, living there in unfurnished apartments just like those offered in any upscale community. It's a slick, beautiful complex that's safe as can be, and only a long 1/2 block away from the Warner Brothers lot -- as well as walking distance from various production studios and other film facilities. I lived in a studio apartment with a Murphy bed that folded up into the wall so the place looked like a nice living room during the day. It was fully outfitted with kitchen supplies, a phone, furniture and decorative items, and had a little balcony surrounded by foliage. There are also plenty of unfurnished apartments of studios up to 2BR. To read more...

It takes a village, I guess
If you really don't mind driving over the hill every time you want to do something awesome, then Valley Village really isn't that bad. But, as far as actually seeing LA and living in the Valley, meh. Don't do it. It's not worth the money you save on rent. Valley Village is kind of a strange mix of Studio City and Van Nuys. It's not really a good thing. Aside from that, the units are pretty small and in need of updating (new carpeting, a good coat of paint). Bathrooms don't have windows, kitchen needs love in the cabinetry, countertop, flooring dept. Units are reaaaally dark. No amenities to speak of really aside from coin op washer and dryer. Neighbors are mixed, some young film people, some retirees. The biggest pro is that you're next to Marie et Cie which is a simply amazing coffee shop. With all that money you saved on rent (and then put into your gas tank), you can walk over to Marie and get an awesome breakfast. Parking is super easy. The neighborhood is a bit meh. There's nothing to really walk to that's of much interest... except Marie. Sorry, Marie.

The Oak Review
My first apartment was really great, i must say, they had possibly everything needed by a tenant but too bad it was a one bedroom and had to share with 2 other people. otherwise i felt at home and trust me i used all the amenities intensively and enjoyed most of it. The complex had lots of teenagers, i mean that's what i saw many times i was outdoors, which didn't really work for me and failed to connect with the teens not that it was a big issues but just something i noted.

This apartment was in an area that wasn't considered too safe. But I have never encountered any problems, during the day. Any place is dangerous at night. The apartment had good laundry facilities, secure parking with 24hr surveillance, and overall security and maintenance. The building is nice for its price, the units are pretty spacious and clean.

I lived here for 1 year and over all was very happy with the building, the apartment and the pool/bbq area. It was walking distance to a cvs, a trader joes and all the bars and shops that ventura blvd has to offer. the apartment itself was clean but everything was just coated in white paint draws, handles shelves, everything. made it bright when we moved in but everything just started to flake after a while, The balcony was sun drenched and quiet with lots greenery. The parking was for 1 car and was at a difficult angle to get in. My main complaint was the neighbor up stairs who was a dj and had funny hours and didn't care about anyone. we did complain and the landlord did little and just told us we would lose our deposit if we moved out early. this was my first apartment in LA and overall it was a good experience and a great area, we now have moved downtown and miss the valley so much.

Don't Bother
Shi*y. Had packages stolen and management did nothing about it. Thin walls and ceilings. You hear everything. EVERYTHING. GHETTO families with like 6 people living in 2 bedroom units. NOISY CHILDREN running around all day and night because there is a playground in the courtyard (some of them were the manager's- she's never in the office even during office hours). Price is WAY too high to live in hookerville and questionable neighbors.

The Grand Apartments
This place is beautiful. Conveniently located next to the arclight and the Sherman Oaks Galleria. Great parking for tenants, however parking for guests can be nearly impossible (as there are only about 5 assigned guest spaces for a complex of about 300 units). The facilities were always clean (pool, sauna, hot tub, gym), but oddly enough, the hallways were quite dingy and unkept. My only real problem was that if I needed something fixed, they definitely took their time. The parking garage was littered with leaky pipes, and again there was no hurry to stop them from leaking mystery fluid onto parked cars. Price was very fair for the penthouse apartment I was in, and everything is within walking distance. Overall, it was one of the better places I have lived in Los Angeles.

Do not move here!

1 bedroom - 1 bath - 1 parking spot
1200 W Riverside Drive, Burbank, CA 91506
Looking from the outside, esthetically this is a nice looking apartment building and the amenities seem great. However, this is not the case.
I’ll start with management because if the management were better this apartment complex would be better. There has been four management teams here over the last three years. For some reason, they replaced the best manager, M. M was proactive and straight forward. I wish I could say the same about the current management; T and F. Over 60 days ago T stated to me that he would send out newsletter which was to include a notice to residents about loitering outside of residents windows in the pool area and making noise after 10pm. He has yet to do so. T is not a problem solver, he just does what corporate tells him. F, is a robot, it doesn’t seem like he has the capability to receive and process information. F just says yes, no and hit buttons on his computer.
Management is so backwards; that they recently closed the swimming pool for two and a half weeks to refurbish it in the middle of spring; instead of the winter. Cont'd...
